A lot of people think you get sick when you travel (or backpack) because of bad food or water. To be clear, bad food and water CAN really hurt you, but I believe it's mostly dirty hands that do people in: they eat with dirty hands, touch their faces and mouths, etc. and that introduces germs at a high load.So... hand sanitizer is, to me, one of the very most essential things I can carry when traveling.** Bonus tip: Hand Sanitizer (because of the alcohol) makes an excellent accelerant for starting fires when camping.
